Witchfinder General were an English heavy metal band from Stourbridge. Strongly influenced by Black Sabbath, they have been described as one of the pioneers of the doom metal style. The band's importance became acknowledged mostly after they disbanded in 1984 amidst controversy of their sexually explicit album covers in the UK. Death Penalty has been described by reviewers as one of the best of the first Wave N.W.O.B.H.M. albums and achieved cult status. Great from start to finish with doomy heavy riffs on such brutal tracks as "Invisible Hate", "Free Country", "Death Penalty", and "R.I.P." the track "Burning A Sinner" is regarded as one of the best Metal songs ever. Dark Lyrics with blistering guitar and screeching vocals aplenty.
