Live/Dead, released in 1969, is the first of the Grateful Dead's live albums which superbly captures this timeless band in their element, ie. in concert. With only Seven tracks over four sides and Seventy-Five minutes of music, Live/Dead sees the band stretch out the familiar songs with brilliant improvisational jamming, which was a trademark of the band. It goes without saying the studio albums are indispensable, but in terms of their live recordings, Live/Dead and the two follow ups, Grateful Dead (Skull & Roses) and Europe '72, are a must for every record collector.
