999 is an English Punk/New Wave band formed 1976 in London by Nick Cash (guitar, vocals), Guy Days (guitar, vocals), Pablo LaBritain (drums) and Jon Watson (bass). Cash was previously in Kilburn and the High Roads alongside Ian Drury. When recruiting band members in Melody Maker, brothers Cash and Days turned down Chrissie Hynde of The Pretenders and Tony James of Generation X. The band's self-financed single "I'm Alive" became a firm favourite in the punk clubs, and their second single, "Nasty Nasty", was cited nearly 20 years after its release as a seminal punk single. Their self-titled debut album was something of a mixed bag, however their second album, Separates, produced by Martin Rushent, is regarded by some critics as one of the best punk albums of all time. To-date the band has released eleven studio albums, standouts include Separates, The Biggest Prize in Sport, and Takeover. 999, named after the UK emergency services number, is regarded as one of the longest running bands from the original punk era.
