Cactus was an American hard rock band formed 1969 in Long Island, New York. The original lineup was something of a supergroup with former Vanilla Fudge rhythm section Tim Bogert (bass) and Carmine Appice (drums), together with guitarist Jim McCarty from Mitch Ryder's Detroit Wheels, and singer Rusty Day from The Amboy Dukes. Bogert and Appice originally planned to team up with Jeff Beck, but Beck was put out of action due to an automobile accident. However the Beck, Bogert & Appice power trio did eventually come together in '72. Cactus delivered four albums of excellent heavy boogie-blues, with their superb second release One Way... Or Another, generally regarded as their best. Other outstanding albums include Cactus and Restrictions. After the original band folded in '72, there were two reconstituted outfits bearing the Cactus name, but neither contained any original members.
