High on Fire is an American Sludge Metal band formed 1998 in Oakland, California, by Matt Pike (guitar, vocals), Des Kensel (drums) and George Rice (bass). The band's frontman and founder Matt Pratt also plays guitar for the influential stoner metal band Sleep. The band's sound is a mix between classic heavy metal and stoner rock, in the vein of Pike's previous band Sleep, influenced by bands like Motörhead, Black Sabbath, Slayer and Celtic Frost. To date the band has released eight studio albums, standouts include Blessed Black Wings, Death is This Communion and 2018's Electric Messiah. High on Fire won the 2019 Grammy Award for Best Metal Performance with their song "Electric Messiah."
