J Church | Artist
J Church was an American punk rock band formed 1992 in San Francisco, California, by guitarist and vocalist Lance Hahn and bassist Gardner Maxam, after the demise of their former band Cringer. The pair formed Cringer in their native state of Hawaii, before relocating to California. They went through a large number of drummers but one mainstay was the former Jawbreaker drummer Adam Pfahler. For a period David DiDonato was onboard as second guitarist. The band's style was straight-on, heavy guitar driven punk rock, with some pop influences. In their 14 year lifespan they delivered 11 studio albums plus a host of EPs and Singles. Standout albums include Arbor Vitae, The Drama of Alienation, Cat Food, One Mississippi, Seishun Zankoku Monogatari and The Horror of Life. Frontman Hahn became active as a "punk rock history writer", writing many pieces for Maximum Rock 'n' Roll , the San Francisco punk zine, and working on a book compiling writings on anarcho-punk groups. He also ran the independent record label Honey Bear Records. Hahn died from kidney failure on October 21, 2007, aged 40.
