James Joseph Brown was an American singer, songwriter, dancer, musician, record producer and bandleader born 1933 in Barnwell, South Carolina. Brown was a master of funky soul music and a major figure of 20th-century music and dance, he is often referred to as the "Godfather of Soul. His Revue-style stage performances were famous for Brown's high energy and stage craft. Billboard's R&B chart from 1942 to 2010 ranks James Brown as number one in The Top 500 Artists.
