Brian Williams aka Lustmord is a Welsh industrial musician, sound designer and film score composer born 1964 in North Wales. He is often credited with creating the dark ambient genre. Williams relocated to London in his late teens where he befriended Throbbing Gristle members Cosey Fanni Tutti and Chris Carter, who urged him to make his own music. He started recording as Lustmord in 1980 before joining Graham Revell's SPK in 1982. Lustmord's music incorporates field recordings made in crypts, caves, and slaughterhouses, combined with ritualistic incantations and Tibetan horns. His treatments of acoustic phenomena treated with digitally expanded bass rumbles have a dark ambient quality. In addition to his solo work, Williams has collaborated with artist including Robert Rich, Jarboe, John Balance of Coil, Clock DVA, Chris & Cosey, and The Melvins. Of his 22 albums to-date, outstanding releases include Heresy, The Place Where The Black Stars Hang, Stalker, Carbon/Core and the live album Lustmord Rising: 06.06.06. The 2000 compilation Purifying Fire is also recommended.
