My Friend the Chocolate Cake is an Australian chamber pop group formed 1989 in Melbourne by mainstays, David Bridie on vocals and keyboards and Helen Mountfort on cello and backing vocals. Their music is a style of acoustic chamber pop with an emphasis on piano and violin instruments and the melodic vocals and songwriting of Bridie. They have released seven studio albums with two, Brood and Good Luck, reaching the Australian Albums Chart top 50, and their music has been used on several popular TV shows. The band takes extended breaks to accommodate the other projects of Bridie and the other musicians. Outstanding albums include My Friend the Chocolate Cake ('91), Brood ('94), Home Improvements ('07) and Live at The National Theatre ('97).
