Portishead is an English band formed 1991 in Bristol by Beth Gibbons, Geoff Barrow and Adrian Utley. Dave McDonald, their engineer, is regarded as a fourth band member, because of the exquisite engineering and production that characterises their sound. Portishead is considered one of the pioneers of trip-hop music and the band is named after a seaside town near Bristol. Their first album release Dummy is a masterpiece and the other two studio albums: Portishead and Third, are also superb, as is the live album Roseland NYC Live. Gibbons and Barrow have both released solo works, and Utley heads Adrian Utley's Guitar Orchestra.
