Ultravox | Artist
Ultravox was a British new wave band formed 1973 in London. Originally called Tiger Lily, the original lineup was John Foxx (Dennis Leigh), Billy Currie, Chris Cross (Chris Allen), Stevie Shears and Warren Cann. Their first album Ultravox! was produced by Brian Eno and established their unique early post-punk sound. The name of the album was a reference to the Krautrock band Neu! who influenced the English band's sound. In 1979 after releasing three albums, John Foxx left to go solo and was replaced by Midge Ure from the Boy-Pop band Slik. Initially with John Foxx, they had a distinctive Punk/Artrock sound, whereas the Midge Ure sound was New Wave and much more commercially successful, as demonstrated by the worldwide hit single "Vienna" in 1980. Outstanding albums include Ultravox!, Ha! Ha! Ha!, Systems of Romance and Vienna.
