X is an American rock band, formed 1977 in Los Angeles. They were among the first wave of US punks. The original lineup was Exene Cervenka (vocals), John Doe (bass, vocals), Billy Zoom (guitar) and D.J. Bonebrake (drums). The band released seven studio albums from 1980 to 1993. Their debut album Los Angeles, produced by ex-Doors member Ray Manzarek who added some keyboard work, is considered a classic of the punk genre. Their next three albums Wild Gift, Under the Big Black Sun and More Fun in the New World are also excellent. The band lost impetus after the commercial failure of their early work. They've reunited several times and recorded the excellent Live in Los Angeles album in 2005.
