Custard was an Australian indie band formed 1989 in Brisbane, by David McCormack (vocals, guitar), Paul Medew (bass, vocals), Matthew Strong (guitar, vocals) and Glen Thompson (drums, guitar, vocals). Custard's 1991 debut album, Buttercup/Bedford, was privately issued and generally ignored. Their second, the critically acclaimed Wahooti Fandango was released on Ra records in 1994 and got TV coverage for the single 'Aloha Tambourinist'. However, the band's breakthrough came in 1995 with the single "Apartment" lifted from their third album Wisenheimer. "Apartment" received high rotation airplay on radio and was voted #7 in the 1995 JJJ Hottest 100, at the time the highest ever placing by an Australian band. In 1996 Custard performed on the forecourt of the Sydney Opera House as part of Crowded House'e Farewell Tour concert. Later that year they toured Australia with Weezer, Frank Black, Beck and the Presidents of the USA, then went to America to play more shows with the "Presidents". The band split in 2000, with McCormack forming The Titanics and pursuing solo work. Standout Custard albums include Buttercup, Wahooti Fandango, Wisenheimer, We Have The Technology and Loverama.
