Daevid Allen | Artist
Christopher David Allen aka Daevid, was an Australian poet, guitarist, singer, composer and performance artist born 1938 in Melbourne. In 1961 Allen travelled to London and formed a free jazz band Daevid Allen Trio which included his Landlord's son, the 16 year old Robert Wyatt. Allen then recruited Kevin Ayers and Mike Ratledge to form Soft Machine. After a European tour with Soft Machine Allen was refused re-entry to the UK so instead went to France and formed Gong with his partner Gilli Smyth. Allen was one of the foremost psychedelic rock musicians of the era. Outstanding solo albums include Banana Moon, Good Morning and Now is the Happiest Time of Your Life.
