Azymuth is a Brazilian jazz-funk trio formed 1973 in Rio de Janeiro by Jose Roberto Bertrami, Alex Malheiros and Ivan Conti. They played a fusion of Jazz and Bossa Nova which was marked by excellent musicianship. The band name was originally called Azimüth and this is the name of their excellent first studio album, which was later renamed Azymuth for later releases. Other outstanding albums include Outubro, Cascades, Butterfly and Fênix. This band is not to be confused with the UK jazz trio with a similar name.
