Group 1850 | Artist
Groep 1850 was a Dutch psychedelic rock band founded 1964 in The Hague by Peter Sjardin (flute, organ, vocals), Beer Klaasse (drums), Daniel van Bergen (guitar, piano), Ruud van Buuren (bass) and Nippy Noya (percussion). Despite never achieving success outside The Netherlands, the band is now considered one of the most innovative acid rock bands from the late sixties era. After several early classic Singles, such as "Misty Night" and "Mother No Head", they released their excellent debut album Agemo's Trip To Mother Earth in early 1968. Issued on the Philips label, the album received good reviews and was notable for having a 3-D Image on the cover, and being packaged with a pair of 3-D glasses. They were then dropped by Philips and released their second classic acid-psych album Paradise Now on the Dutch Discofoon label. The band fell apart after the second album but reformed for the 1975 comeback album Polyandri, which was a bit of a disappointment. Other standout releases include the excellent 2012 compilation Mother No Head - Their 45's, and Group 1850 Live, released in 1974.
