July "The Second of July" (1995)

LP (NEW) - Vinyl, Trading Places, UK, 2020, TDP 54048, 5060672880480, Reissue

The obscure West London psychedelic band July arose from the ashes of rhythm & blues group The Tomcats, after absorbing members of Second Thoughts. The co-founder Tom Newman later known for his work with Tubular Bells, shifted the group into psychedelic mode with his guitar friend Peter Cook leading to a contract with Major Minor label for their self-titled debut album. These rare demos were cut before the LP, not only blending psych rock and pop with lush harmonies, intricate lead guitar and scintillating keyboards, but also here including IOndian elements such as sitar and tabla, plus trippy tape loops and phasing.
