Arcade Fire "Funeral"

LP (NEW) - Vinyl, Rough Trade, Europe, 2017, RTRADLP219, Reissue, Gatefold Sleeve

Funeral is the much heralded debut from Canadian alt-rock group Arcade Fire. The album sets the foundations for the formula of sounds, concepts and styles the band would revolve around for the rest of their discography. The two subsequent releases, Neon Bible (2007) and Grammy Winning The Suburbs (2010) would act as a pseudo trilogy of sorts, which has since placed the band as headliners across the globe. It all starts here, with Neighbourhood #1 (Tunnels)", an outstanding opener rooted in the vivid imagery of collapse and rebellion. Lead Guitarist and Vocalist Win Butler charges the album with anthemic energy from the offset, with "Wake Up" being the defining statement of the record. Vocalist and Wife of Butler, Renee Chassagne fills in the gaps for softer moments when the album calls for it, especially on the quieter closing track "In the Backseat". Funeral is a benchmark record for the Indie Rock movement of the 2000s and shows a great band at their creative best.
