The B-52s is an American new wave band formed 1976 in Athens, Georgia, by Fred Schneider, Kate Pierson, Cindy Wilson, Ricky Wilson, and Keith Strickland. After Ricky Wilson's death in 1985, Strickland switched from drums to lead guitar. The band's sound draws from '50s-'60s trash culture and rock'n'roll. Their 1978 single "Rock Lobster" was a world-wide hit which built the band a devoted cult following. Outstanding albums include The B-52s, Wild Planet, Whammy! and Cosmic Thing. Schneider, Pierson and Cindy Wilson have all released solo albums.
