Basil Kirchin was an English drummer, electronic musician and composer born 1927 in Blackpool, UK. He started his career playing drums in his father's big band at the age of 13 and developed into one of England's foremost exponents of experimental electronic music and Musique concrète. His work ranged from film scores and electronic tape manipulation, to field recordings of birds, animals, insects and autistic children. In later life he faded into obscurity but his work has been acknowledged by artists such as Brian Eno, Nurse With Wound and Broadcast. Outstanding albums include The Abominable Dr. Phibes film sound track, Worlds Within Worlds and Abstractions of the Industrial North.
