Boredoms | Artist
Boredoms is a Japanese rock band formed 1986 in Osaka by Yamantaka Eye who was previously with noise/performance art group Hanatarash. The band's output is usually referred to as noise rock or sometimes Japanoise, though their more recent records have mostly featured repetitive minimalism, ambient music, and tribal drumming. Eye has collaborated with Sonic Youth and also worked extensively with John Zorn's Naked City project, serving as guest vocalist. Boredom's first album to get mainstream attention was 1989's Soul Discharge which won them a record deal with Warners. Their two masterworks are Super ae (1998) and Vision Creation Newsun (1998) which contained more electronica influences and have been compared with Krautrock favourites Can. The band's latest album release is the excellent Seadrum/House of Sun from 2004.
