Crime & the City Solution is an Australian post-punk band formed 1977 in Sydney by singer-songwriter and mainstay, Simon Bonney. The original lineup included Phil Kitchener (bass), Dave MacKinnon (saxophone), Don McLennan (drums) and Harry Zantey (guitar). They disbanded in 1979 leaving only bootleg recordings and some demos. In 1983, Bonney reformed the band in London with his pals Mick Harvey and Roland S. Howard from The Birthday Party, plus Epic Soundtracks from Swell Maps on drums. This version of the band recorded two albums: Just South of Heaven and Room of Lights. Howard and Soundtracks left to form These Immortal Souls, and Bonney recruited Christo Haas from D.A.F. (synthesiser), Alexander Hacke from Einstürzende Neubauten (guitar), Thomas Stern (bass) and Bronwyn Adams (violin). The band underwent another incarnation when Bonney relocated to Detroit USA and recorded the 2013 album American Twilight. Outstanding albums include Room of Lights, The Bride Ship and Paradise Discotheque. The 2012 compilation An Introduction to Crime & The City Solution is an excellent collection.
