Curve was an English alternative rock and electronica duo formed 1990 in London by Toni Halliday (vocals) and Dean Garcia (bass, guitar, drums, programming). Halliday also wrote the lyrics of their songs and they both contributed to songwriting. Halliday and Garcia were introduced to each other by Dave Stewart of Eurythmics. Halliday had recorded a solo album for Stewarts' label Anxious Records and Garcia had played bass for Eurythmics for several years. As Curve, the duo's style was a form of dark gothic shoegaze underpinned by techno beats, built on guitar noise, dance tracks, and airy melodies. Halliday cited Patti Smith, Nico and Siouxsie and the Banshees as primary influences. The band released five studio albums plus several excellent EPs and Singles before disbanding in 2005. Toni Halliday has worked with The Killers and Orbital, plus has a new solo project called Chatelaine. Garcia worked with Gang of Four for several years then formed a new band SPC ECO with his daughter Rose Berlin. Standout Curve albums include Doppelgänger, Cuckoo, Gift, Radio Sessions and the excellent 2004 compilation The Way of Curve.
