Dave Hole | Artist
Robert David Hole is an Australian slide guitarist born 1948 in Heswall UK. Hole's family moved from the UK to Perth, Australia when Dave was aged 4. He is known for his unique blues slide guitar style and has a large following in the USA and Europe due to his relationship with US based blues label Alligator Records. Hole laboured for 20 years around the Australian pub circuit and the UK before his self-financed album Short Fuse Blues brought him to the attention of Alligator Records. The Alligator relationship came about after Hole sent a copy of the album to US magazine, Guitar Player, and editor Jas Obrecht wrote an article in July 1991 praising Hole as the newest guitar wizard and comparing him with Stevie Ray Vaughan and Albert King. Alligator Records president Bruce Iglauer signed Hole up as the first non-US-based artist in their 26-year history. Hole has gone on to release nine studio albums to-date, two of which, Steel on Steel and Ticket to Chicago ranked in Billboard's Top Blues Albums chart. Standout albums include Working Overtime, Steel on Steel, Under the Spell, Rough Diamond and The Live One.
