From Genesis to Revelation is the debut album by UK prog rockers Genesis, originally released in 1969 on the Decca label. The album was recorded as early as August 1968 by the first lineup of Genesis comprising Peter Gabriel, Anthony Phillips, Anthony (Tony) Banks, Michael Rutherford and John Silver. The band were not happy with the album and largely disowned it at the time. Completely unsuccessful commercially, Decca dropped the band from their roster and the album from their catalogue. It wasn't reissued again until 1974 when London Records pressed a small run on vinyl, then in 1986 it was released on CD under the title Where the Sour Turns to Sweet by UK budget label Rock Machine. Musically, this is more than just an historic curio from a band that would soon become worldwide headliners, it's a good psych-pop album with no hint of the progressive rock sound that Genesis burst out with on their next album Trespass released the following year. A much underrated album and one that will be of great interest to Genesis fans.
