Obaro Ejimiwe aka Ghostpoet is a British vocalist and musician born 1983 in London. Ejimiwe doesn't like his music to be categorised as "hip hop" or "trip hop" etc. but instead describes himself simply as "just an artist who experiments with sounds and loves guitars". His first album, Peanut Butter Blues & Melancholy Jam, was shortlisted for the 2011 Mercury Prize. One reviewer described his approach as "fitting his style in such a sombre way around the spacey yet tight production, it's the sound of broken tower block lifts while the rain trickles down drain-pipes". His sound has also been described as "how Autechre would sound if they were fronted by Tricky". His 2015 album, Shedding Skin was also nominated for the Mercury Music Prize and featured guest appearances by Nadine Shah, Etta Bond, Mélanie De Biasio, Lucy Rose and Paul Smith. His most recent album Dark Days + Canapés was released in 2017 and contained the stirring single "Immigrant Boogie". Ghostpoet also featured on Massive Attack's song "Come Near Me", the B-side to "The Spoils".
