Hidden Orchestra is the studio project of multi-instrumentalist, composer, and producer Joe Acheson formed 2005 in Edinburgh, Scotland. The band's regular live members include Acheson (double bass, electric bass, samples) Poppy Ackroyd (keyboards, violin, viola) and drummers Tim Lane and Jamie Graham. They mix elements of jazz, classical music, drum and bass, rock and hip hop, also adding natural field recordings and electronic effects into the mix. Acheson records musicians individually, then combines the recordings in a studio as though the musicians were part of an orchestra. To date they have released three studio albums, a live albums and several EP's. Standouts include Night Walks, Archipelago and Night Chorus. The 2011 compilation Night Walks on Vinyl Mixtape is also recommended. BBC Radio 1 chose Night Walks as their Album of the Month In January 2011.
