Icehouse is an Australian rock band formed 1981 in Sydney by leader Iva Davies. They started life in 1977 as Flowers with Davies (vocals, guitar, keyboards), Keith Welsh (bass), Anthony Smith (keyboards) and John Lloyd (drums). Initially known for their pub-rock style, doing covers of Bowie, Roxy Music, Ultravox and T-Rex, the band's music became more original with the influence of Davies' increasing use of synth's and his original compositions. They later achieved mainstream success as Icehouse playing new-wave and synthpop music and attained Top 10 singles chart success in Australia as well as Europe and the U.S. Flowers' debut album titled Icehouse was released in 1980 and contained the singles "Can't Help Myself", "We Can Get Together" and "Walls". In 1981 they signed to Chrysalis records and changed their name to Icehouse. With their second album Primitive Man, the band found their characteristic new-wave synthpop sound and the album received good reviews and international succes, with the hit single "Hey Little Girl". After ongoing lineup changes the band evolved essentially into an Iva Davies solo project, which has gone on to record 10 studio albums to-date. Outstanding releases include Icehouse, Primitive Man, Man of Colours, Big Wheel and The Berlin Tapes.
