Kylie Minogue, AO, OBE, Australian singer, songwriter and actress born 1968 in Melbourne. She has worldwide recognition for her dance-pop music and stage performances, and has achieved recognition starring in Australian soap opera Neighbours, as well as a string of movies dating back to 1989. Minogue's first release for Mushroom Records "The Locomotion" was a hit and became the biggest selling single in Australia during the 1980's. This resulted in Minogue travelling to England to work with producers Stock, Aitken & Waterman who wrote for her the song "I Should be so Lucky". That single reached number one in the UK, Australia, Germany, Finland, Switzerland, Israel and Hong Kong, establishing Kylie's international success. Minogue's work gradually transitioned from lightweight pop hits to more sophisticated adult oriented dance-club music, over the course of her first five albums, and along the way she moved on from Stock, Aitken & Waterman. Her sixth album, 1997's excellent Impossible Princess sees Minogue in full creative mode putting out sophisticated, superbly produced art-pop gems. 2001 saw the release of the equally excellent album Fever, which arguably was her artistic peak. To-date Minogue has released 17 studio albums, 88 singles and a swag of excellent live albums. Outstanding albums include Impossible Princess (1997), Fever (2001), X (2007), Aphrodite (2010), The Abbey Road Sessions (2012), Aphrodite: Les Folies - Live in London (2011), Disco (2020), and Tension. In 2023, the irrepressible Kylie released her seventeenth studio album Tension to critical acclaim. The album, which Minogue described as "a blend of personal reflection, club abandon and melancholic high" features works from British record producer Lostboy, Dutch DJ Oliver Heldens, British singer-songwriter Kamille and other collaborators. Hannah Mylrea of Rolling Stone UK claimed it as "brilliantly good fun and soaring pop music, with a huge amount of heart that brings big emotions to the dancefloor, much like its creator." The album debuted at number one in Australia and the UK, with the lead single "Padam Padam" entering the top ten in the UK, making Kylie the only female artist to achieve a UK top ten entry, in the 1980s and the 2020s. Minogue is the highest-selling female Australian artist of all time, having sold over 80 million records worldwide. She has been recognised for reinventing herself in music as well as fashion, and is referred to by the European press as the "Princess of Pop" and a style icon. In July 2008, she was invested by Charles III as an Officer of the Order of the British Empire.
