Amelie Bruun aka Myrkur is a Danish musician born 1985 in Copenhagen. Her musical style is black-metal heavily influenced by traditional Nordic folk music. Bruun recorded three unremarkable indie-rock EPs under her own name before joining the Brooklyn US based band Ex-Cops, who released two albums True Hallucinations (2013) and Daggers (2014). She was also briefly in the duo Minks which released the dream-pop album By The Hedge, in 2011. Returning to Denmark and now working under the name Myrkur, which is Icelandic for "Dark", Bruun reshaped her musical persona to reflect her love of black metal combined with Nordic folk influences. She has released two EPs, two albums and a number of Singles as Myrkur, on the Relapse Records label. Standout releases include the album Mareridt and the live EP Mausoleum. Myrkur has announced the release of a new album Folkesange in early 2020 which is more Nordic folk styled than her earlier work. Myrkur plays the traditional Nordic stringed instruments the nyckelharpa and mandola, which add a degree of authenticity to her folk sound. Outside of music, Bruun has appeared in music videos and a commercial for Chanel perfume Bleu de Chanel, directed by Martin Scorsese.
