Pete Townshend is an English musician, singer, songwriter, and multi-instrumentalist, born 1945 in Chiswick, London. He is best known as the lead guitarist, backing vocalist, and principal songwriter for the Who, but has also had an active solo career starting with his excellent first album Who Came First, released in 1972. As well as being one of the world's greatest rock guitarists, Townshend is a very accomplished writer and is active in the field of music literature publishing. Outstanding albums include, the excellent Rough Mix, a collaborative work with Ronnie Lane from the Faces, as well as Empty Glass, All The Best Cowboys Have Chinese Eyes and White City.
