Giuseppe "Pino" Donaggio is an Italian composer born 1941 in Burano, Venice Italy. He is known for his unforgettable film scores and contributions to the world of cinema, in particular the horror films of Brian De Palma. Donaggio studied violin at the Benedetto Marcello Conservatory in Venice and later pursued a career as a singer-songwriter before transitioning to composing music for films. He released two self-titled Italo-Pop albums in the years 1962 and 1965. Donaggio scored the excellent soundtrack for the 1973 Nicholas Roeg thriller Don't Look Now, which starred Donald Sutherland and Julie Christie. His big breakthrough then came in 1976 when he collaborated with renowned American director Brian De Palma on the film Carrie, starring Sissy Spacek. His hauntingly beautiful score for the horror classic earned him widespread acclaim and marked the beginning of a successful partnership with De Palma. This success propelled Donaggio into the spotlight and established him as a sought-after composer in Hollywood. Throughout his career, Donaggio has composed music for a diverse range of films, spanning multiple genres and styles. From suspenseful thrillers like Dressed to Kill and Blow Out to romantic dramas like Don't Look Now and Passion, where his evocative themes resonate with audiences long after the credits roll. With over 80 album releases to his credit, Donaggio is one of the industry's most-loved composers, particularly in the horror and thriller genres. Standout albums include Don't Look Now (1973), Carrie (1976), Dressed to Kill (1980), Blow Out (2002), Body Double (2008), and Passion (2013). Also the 1994 compilation Brian De Palma: Music by Pino Donaggio, is an excellent compilation. Back when Donaggio was first starting out as an aspiring pop singer in Italy, he wrote and recorded the 1965 hit "Io che non vivo", which sold 80 million records worldwide. The song achieved popularly in English as "You Don't Have to Say You Love Me" covered by both Dusty Springfield and Elvis Presley. In 2012 Donaggio was awarded the Lifetime Achievement Award from the World Soundtrack Academy
