The Beths are a New Zealand indie pop band formed 2014 in Auckland by Elizabeth Stokes (vocals, guitar), Jonathan Pearce (guitar, vocals), Benjamin Sinclair (bass, vocals), and Ivan Luketina-Johnston (drums, vocals). Tristan Deck became the band's new drummer in 2019. Stokes and Pearce originally met in high school and the duo become a four piece when all four members were studying Jazz at the University of Auckland. The band independently released their debut EP Warm Blood which spawned the single "Whatever", released with an accompanying music video in May 2016. The band's big breakthrough came in 2018 with the release of their excellent debut album Future Me Hates Me, issued on US label Carpark Records, which spawned the single, "Great No One." The band then undertook on an international tour supporting the release, and followed up in 2019 touring the UK and Europe supporting Death Cab For Cutie. Following their debut album the band released two further studio albums: Jump Rope Gazers (2020) and Expert in a Dying Field (2022), plus the live album Auckland NZ 2020 (2021) - all their albums are recommended. The band's sound is characterised by catchy power pop songs with great vocal harmonies, hooks and guitar solos, using the voices of all four band members. Members of the band have cited the bands Alvvays and Bully as inspirations for their work.
