The Eleventh House | Artist
The Eleventh House was an American jazz fusion group formed 1973 in New York City, led by the guitarist Larry Coryell. Similar to other jazz fusion "supergroups" of the time, Weather Report, Mahavishnu Orchestra and Return to Forever, The Eleventh House lineup comprised ace jazz players Coryell (guitar), Randy Brecker (trumpet), Mike Mandel (keyboards), Danny Trifan (bass) and Alphonse Mouzon (drums). The band recorded their excellent first album Introducing Eleventh House with Larry Coryell, in 1973. The following albums were Live In Montreux and Level One, both from 1974. Their 1976 release Aspects saw Japanese trumpeter Terumasa Hino replace Lawrence, giving a more horn-driven funk sound. With lineup changes, the band periodically came together and performed right up until Coryell's death in 2017. Larry's son Julian Coryell joined on second guitar in 1999. The band's final album Seven Secrets was releases in 2017 and contained Coryell's last recording sessions done together with the remaining members of the original lineup. Standout albums include Introducing The Eleventh House With Larry Coryell, Level One and Aspects. Coryell and the other band members also released their own solo and collaborative works.
