The Watch | Artist

The Watch is an Italian progressive rock band formed 1997 in Milan by vocalist, flautist, principal songwriter and teacher Simone Rossetti. The other band members are Ettore Salati (guitar), Marco Schembri (bass), Gabriele Manzini (keyboards), Roberto Leoni (drums) and Fabio Mancini (keyboards). Their music is inspired by classic progressive rock style of the 1970s and in particular by the music of Genesis. Originally called The Night Watch, they released the excellent Twilight (1997) album under that name before re-forming as Watch with Rossetti as the only original member remaining. Watch have released seven consistently excellent studio albums over a sixteen year span, with special mention going to the first four which are standouts: Ghost (2001), Vacuum (2004), Primitive (2007) and Planet Earth? (2010). The 2014 album Tracks From the Alps is perhaps the strongest of their later albums. Guitarist Ettore Salati also heads the side-project band The RedZen, which released the excellent album Void in 2011. In concert, the band covers Genesis' classic albums from the 70s along with with their own music. The Watch's most recent album Seven features ex-Genesis guitarist Steve Hackett playing on one track.
