Thomas Earl Petty was an American singer-songwriter, multi-instrumentalist, record producer, and actor born 1950 in Gainesville, Florida. He was the lead singer of Tom Petty and the Heartbreakers formed in 1976. He previously led the band Mudcrutch and he co-founded the Traveling Wilburys. With a distinctive vocal and guitar sound, his Americana influenced style saw him become one of the most popular rock musicians of his era. Standout albums include Tom Petty & The Heartbreakers, Damn the Torpedoes, Full Moon Fever and Wildflowers.
