Weather Report was an American jazz fusion band formed 1970 in New York City. Very much a multinational all-star lineup, the band was co-led by the Austrian-born keyboard player Joe Zawinul, American saxophonist Wayne Shorter and Czech bassist Miroslav Vitouš. Other prominent players came and went, including Alphonso Johnson, Jaco Pastorius and Airto Moreira. Along with contemporaries Return to Forever and Mahavishnu Orchestra, Weather Report were regarded as one of the leading jazz-rock fusion outfits of their time. Recording-wise 1971-76 was their peak period with outstanding albums I Sing the Body Electric, Sweetnighter, Mysterious Traveller, Black Market and Live in Tokyo.
