Absoluuttinen Nollapiste is a Progressive/Art Rock band formed in 1991 in Rovaniemi, Finland by vocalist and guitarist Tommi Liimatta. The full lineup initially was Liimatta (vocals, guitar, kazoo, recorder, tin whistle), Aki Laakkola (guitar, keyboards, backing vocals), Aake Otsala (bass, vocals), Tomi Krutsin (drums, percussion, backing vocals), Jukka Leinonen (guitar) and Matti Kettunen (bass). Frontman Tommi Liimatta, besides being a musician is also a cartoonist, painter and writer. In 1993 they started getting serious and participated in the Rockin SM competition ending fifth. The band's eccentric appearance attracted interest and they were asked to record a first song for a local compilation. The next year they released their debut album Neulainen Jerkunen on the small label Vinylmania. It went unnoticed but gave them the opportunity to record a second album on the larger indie-label Johanna Kustannus. In 1996, lead singer Tommi Liimatta recorded and released a solo album Liimatan Pan Alley while the other band members were called to military service. The band continued to released albums but remained an underground phenomenon. In 2002 they returned with a more accesiable sound and the single "Irene Kaktus" became their first chart-hit. Their 2002 album Nimi muutettu established their growing popularity. In 2003 Janne Hast joined the band on keyboards delivering a new sound on the album Seitsemäs sinetti. The 2005 album Mahlanjuoksuttaja had an environmental theme build around the lyrics of Liimatta. In 2007 came their next album iiris with for the first time Hast as a composing band member. In 2012 the band released Pisara ja lammas 1, part one of a science fiction themed concept. The album features guest stars who take different parts in the story. Two years later the band released part two of this SciFi rock opera. In total the band released 12 studio albums, standouts include Muovi antaa periksi, Suljettu, Nimi muutettu, and Mahlanjuoksuttaja. The band name "Absoluuttinen Nollapiste" translates in English as "Absolute Zero".
