The Cowboy Junkies are a Canadian alternative country and folk rock band formed 1985 in Toronto, Ontario, by Alan Anton (bass), Michael Timmins (guitar), Peter Timmins (drums) and Margo Timmins (vocals). Fourth sibling John Timmins was initially a member of the band but left the group before the recording of their first album. The band line-up has never changed since, although the multi-instrumentalist Jeff Bird has performed on every album except the first. Their 1986 debut album, Whites Off Earth Now!, was recorded in the family garage using a single microphone. They shot to fame with their second album The Trinity Session, recorded in 1987 at Toronto's Church of the Holy Trinity. Their sound, a mix of blues, country, folk and jazz underpinned by their subtle harmonies, earned them both critical attention and a strong fan base. To-date they have release 21 studio albums and several excellent live recordings, several of which are available on DVD. Outstanding albums include The Trinity Session, The Caution Horses, Pale Sun Crescent Moon, Lay it Down and BBC Radio 1 Sessions.
