Beirut is an American indie band formed 2006 in New York City by bandleader Zach Condon. Condon, a gifted arranger and multi-instrumentalist, created his debut album Gulag Orkestar primarily as a solo artist then recruited Perrin Cloutier (accordion, cello), Paul Collins (upright bass), Ben Lanz (trombone, tuba), glockenspiel), Nick Petree (drums) and Kyle Resnick (trumpet) to form an ensemble. Beirut's music combines elements of indie-rock and world folk music. Condon also has an electronic music side project named Real People. Outstanding Beirut albums include: Gulag Orkestar, The Flying Club Cup, The Rip Tide, Live at the Music Hall of Williamsburg and Gallipoli.
