Black Flag is a seminal American hardcore punk rock band formed 1976 in Hermosa Beach, California by Greg Ginn, the guitarist, primary songwriter, and only continuous member through multiple personnel changes. The initial lineup was Ginn, singer Keith Morris, bassist Chuck Dukowski and drummer Brian Migdol. The band went through a number of changes in singer before Henry Rollins joined in 1981. The band's first recording was the 1978 EP Nervous Breakdown which although a mere 5:11 minutes over four songs, is regarded as an early hardcore punk classic. Their debut album Damaged generated considerable interest as did their next two excellent releases Everything Went Black and My War. Their work lost its early spark after the release of '84's Slip it In, and Rollins left the band in '86 to form Rollins Band. Outstanding recordings include Nervous Breakdown (EP), Damaged, Everything Went Black, My War, Slip it In and Live '84.
