Boris is a Japanese experimental band formed 1992 in Tokyo by drummer Atsuo Mizuno, guitarist/bassist Takeshi Ohtani and guitarist/keyboardist Wata. All three members share vocals. The band is named after a song of the same name on the Melvins' 1991 album Bullhead. Their musical style could be described as experimental post-metal and they name bands such as Merzbow, Sunn O))) and Earth as influences. The period 1998-2005 was a creative peak for Boris who released seven superb albums back-to-back: Amplifier Worship, Flood, Heavy Rocks, Akuma no Uta, Boris at Last-Feedbacker, Dronevil and Pink. They have also issued some excellent collaboration albums, including 2006's Alter with Sunn O))) and the 2007 live album Rock Dream with Merzbow. Boris opened for Nine Inch Nails on part of their Lights in the Sky tour and they appeared on the avant-garde metal soundtrack to Jim Jarmusch's film "The Limits of Control". The band's 2019 album Love & Evol, released on Jack White's Third Man label, is one of their strongest albums in the past decade.
