Calexico is an American Tex-Mex indie rock band formed 1996 in Tucson, Arizona, by main members, Joey Burns and John Convertino. The duo are multi-instrumentalists and first played together in Los Angeles as part of the group Giant Sand, alongside Howard Gelb. The band's musical style blends traditional Mexican sounds of mariacha mixed with country, jazz and indie rock sounds. Their third release The Black Light ('98) is a superb album, which won them a cult following. To-date they have released seventeen studio albums including several movie soundtracks and a collaboration with fellow Americana exponent Iron & Wine. Other outstanding albums include Hot Rail, Feast of Wire, Carried to Dust and Algiers.
