Camper Van Beethoven is an American rock band formed 1983 in Redlands, California, by David Lowery (vocals, guitar, drums), Victor Krummenacher (bass, vocals), Chris Molla (guitar, vocals), Bill McDonald (drums). Other members David McNeil (guitar), Tom Zorn (harmonica) and Daniel Blue (violin) also contributed at various stages. Their debut album Telephone Free Landslide Victory featured songs with humorous lyrics, often simultaneously celebrating and mocking 1980s counterculture, and instrumental tracks featuring ska-beats and Eastern European, Mexican or Spaghetti-Western influenced guitar or violin lines. In 1987 the band signed to Virgin Records and released their fourth and, arguably, best album Our Beloved Revolutionary Sweetheart, which featured a more streamlined, song-oriented approach, cutting back on the psychedelia and reducing the number of instrumentals. The band was inactive between 1990-99 and Lowry formed new band Cracker with a lineup that included some formed CVB members. Outstanding Camper Van Beethoven albums include Telephone Free Landslide Victory, Our Beloved revolutionary Sweetheart, Key Lime Pie and II & III, which is a compilation of their early EPs.
