Catherine Ribeiro is a French singer from a Portuguese family, born 1941 in Lyon. Ribeiro is an experimental folk and avant-garde performer who started in the '70s singing French Chanson then teamed up with the rock groups 2bis in the late '60s, then Alpes in the '70s. As a soloist her debut album Le blues de Piaf displays her excellent voice and feel for the works of Piaf. In 1968 she joined guitarist Patrice Moullet to form the group Catherine Ribeiro + 2bis, and they made one excellent self-titled album. In late '69 Ribeiro and Poullet collected a lineup for a new band Catherine Ribeiro + Alpes. This group recorded eight studio albums of Avant-Folk/Psych-Folk-Rock before disbanding in 2002. Their second and third releases Âme debout and Paix, are both superb albums. Other standout albums include the Ribeiro solo Le blues de Piaf, and the group works Catherine Ribeiro + 2bis, No.2, and (Libertés?).
