Christian Death is an American gothic rock band formed 1979 in Orange County, California, by Rozz Williams joined by Rikk Agnew, James McGearty and George Belanger. That lineup recorded the band's classic debut album Only Theatre of Pain, which was a seminal album in the US Goth-metal scene. With major line-up changes over the years, Williams eventually left in '85 and Valor Kand became band leader. Christian Death has maintained "a relentlessly confrontational stand against organized religion and conventional morality" as their band ethos. After leaving the band, Rozz Williams, who's birth name was Roger Alan Painter, wrote poetry and produced solo and group music with the bands Premature Ejaculation, Shadow Project and Eva O. Outstanding Christian Death albums include Only Theatre of Pain, Catastrophe Ballet, Ashes and Atrocities.
