Dog Faced Hermans | Artist
Dog Faced Hermans was an English post-punk band formed 1986 in Edinburgh, Scotland, by Marion Coutts (vocals, trumpet, tuba), Colin McLean (bass, Guitar), Wilf Plum (drums, saxophone) and Andy Moor (guitar, viola). The band emerged from the UK anarcho-punk scene with a guitar/bass/drums line-up, but also incorporated trumpet and other instruments not commonly found in punk music at that time. Their style incorporated many genres of music outside of rock, including folk, jazz, ambient and noise music, often with unorthodox instrumental arrangements. Many critics compared the band's music with bands such as The Pop Group, The Raincoats and The Fall. One reviewer took The Fall comparison further by suggesting "The Fall's rebellious little sister discovered feminism, starts a band, and ends up being much more imaginative than her brother". The band often collaborated with Dutch anarchist group The Ex, and Andy Moor continued to play with The Ex as a permanent member when Dog Faced Hermans disbanded in 1995. Dog Faced Hermans released five consistently good studio albums and several live albums, standouts include Every Day Timebomb, Mental Blocks for all Ages, Hum of Life, Those Deep Buds and the live album Bump & Swing.
