Explosions In The Sky | Artist
Explosions in the Sky is an American post-rock band formed 1999 in Austin, Texas, by Mark Smith (guitar), Michael James (bass, guitar), Munaf Rayani (guitar) and Chris Hrasky (drums). The quartet originally played under the name Breaker Morant, then changed to the current name in 1999. The band has garnered popularity beyond the post-rock scene for their elaborate guitar work and narratively styled instrumentals, which the band refers to as "cathartic mini-symphonies". They primarily play with three electric guitars and a drum kit, although Michael James will at times exchange his electric guitar for a bass guitar. Their debut album How Strange, Innocence was self-released on CD-R and sparked interest in the band around Austin. Now signed to the Temporary Residence Limited label, their second album Those Who Tell The Truth Shall Die, Thos Who Tell The Truth Shall Live Forever, gained them further attention and won them a spot as support band for Fugazi on their 2002 US tour. The band's excellent third album The Earth is Not a Cold Dead Place was their critical and commercial breakthrough, confirming them as one of the US's leading post-rock outfits. At the peak of their popularity in 2013, Explosions in The Sky supported both Nine Inch Nails and Godspeed You! Black Emperor on their respective North American tours. The band has released to-date 11 studio albums, including several soundtracks. Standouts include How Strange Innocence, Those Who Tell The Truth.., The Earth is Not a Cold Dead Place, All of a Sudden I Miss Everyone and Take Care Take Care Take Care.
