Eyehategod is an American sludge metal band formed 1988 in New Orleans by Jimmy Bower (guiter) and Joey LaCaze (drums). They recruited additional members and the present lineup comprises Bower together with MIchael Williams (vocals), Brian Patton (guitar), Gary Mader (bass) and Aaron Hill (drums). They have become one of the better known bands to emerge from the New Orleans metal scene. The band's style is heavy, detuned, and bluesy guitar riffs combined with walls of feedback and tortured vocals to create a harsh misanthropic edge. The band members cite Melvins, Carnivore, The Obsessed, Discharge, Black Flag, Corrosion of Conformity, Black Sabbath, Celtic Frost and Saint Vitus as key influences to their sound. The band has released five studio albums to-date, standouts are the excellent Take as Needed for Pain, plus In The Name of Suffering and Dopesick. Jimmy Bower also played drums for bands Corrosion of Conformity and Crowbar. Bower is also in a side-project called The Mystic Crew of Clear Light, who have released two albums.
