Fantômas | Artist
Fantômas is an American metal supergroup, formed in 1998 in California by vocalist Mike Patton, drummer Dave Lombardo, guitarist Buzz Osborne and bassist Trevor Dunn. Patton was with Mr Bungle and is now the singer for Faith No More, Dunn was also in Mr Bungle and Melvins, Osborne is with Melvins, and Lombardo was with Slayer and Suicidal Tendencies. Mike Patton kicked things off when he composed a series of spasmic, avant-garde metal/grindcore songs and invited the others to join him in an avant-metal supergroup, working as a side-project to their regular band work. The band is named after Fantômas, a supervillain featured in a series of French crime novels popular before WWI, and in a 60's French movie series. They have released four studio albums, standouts include the excellent The Director's Cut from 2001, and Suspended Animation from 2005.
